Legends Ubuntu Foundation (LUF)
Giving it back to the industry – Paying it Forward
The Legends Ubuntu Foundation (LUF) was created with LUF as our way of putting our CSI spend and that of our clients back into the gaming industry and helping it grow.
As Legends ourselves in the industry, we feel that It is our turn to give back to the industry itself and pay it forward.
We recognise that there are many challenges that the youth and both men and women face in the gaming industry, and LUF is here to start addressing some of those challenges through:
- Protecting Our Youth: As the South African gambling landscape continues to expand, alarming trends in underage gambling are emerging, raising serious concerns for parents and guardians
- Ease of online access
- Raising Awareness
- Equip with skills to handle potential stakes and risks responsibly and the financial skills to manage their money effectively
- Managing and overcoming peer pressure and the excitement to follow in a family member’s footsteps
- Uplifting Men: Industry suicides are extremely real for gaming operator executives as well as for problem gamblers and those suffering from gambling addiction. Research shows that men are 5 times more susceptible to suicide than women, and this increases 19-fold among men between the ages of 20 and 49 if they have a gambling problem. There is also no focus on Men Mental Health and well being and Legends would like to work with the industry on putting together initiatives that will be beneficial to the men too!
- Uplifting Women: As a Women in gaming company, Legends is particularly passionate about uplifting more women in the industry and giving them a voice and platforms to shine. We also believe that initiatives such as Women In Gaming, Breast Cancer Awareness and work life balance are also challenges within our industry and will work with the industry to find ways to support these challenges.
- Support for start-up gaming enterprises: There are about five million small to medium enterprises in South Africa. Imagine if each one of them employs one extra person; a New Growth Path would rapidly ensue, considering there are about 8,4 million unemployed (Stats SA 2022) in the country. Through effective enterprise development, which is a great catalyst for growth, job creation and social stability, we have a golden opportunity to contribute to a prosperous, vibrant, fair gaming industry.
We envisage providing assistance and support in the form of:
- Social development drives
- Entrepreneurs & Enterprises programs
- Education and training through Learnerships and other programs
- Internships with LEGENDS Group Companies
- Programs that look after the physical and mental well-being of men, women and youth in the South African gaming industry
- Support programs for youth, women and men suffering from abuse and for the abusers
- Job creation: Through our “Girl Next Door” live-streaming studios
